Ministry Of Natural Resources Resumes Full Hours

The public is notified that the Ministry of Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration has returned to full working hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Virgin Islands High School Certificate Programme Registration

The public is informed that registration for the Virgin Islands High School Certificate Programme will be held on Monday, October 28 to Friday, November 8 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The locations for sign-up are as follows:

  • Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries & Agriculture, 3rd Floor, Ward's Building, Road Town, Tortola;

  • Bregado Flax Educational Centre - Primary Division, Valley, Virgin Gorda;

  • Jost Van Dyke Primary School, Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke; and

  • Claudia Creque Educational Centre, The Settlement, Anegada.

Abattoir Temporarily Closed

The public is notified that effective immediately, the Abattoir at the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries is temporarily closed to allow for its mechanical issues to be rectified.

 

Services are expected to resume on Monday, September 23.

Full Working Hours Resume At The Central Administration Complex

The public is notified that full working hours have resumed at the Central Administration Complex.

Operations at the complex were scaled back earlier this month following the malfunction of the main A/C chiller in the building.

 

The situation has been rectified and the public can now access the complex from Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Emergency Water Operators Now On Call 24 Hours A Day

The public is notified that operators are now on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to complaints related to water services.  Operators may be contacted at 499-0500, 499-2924 or 499-2620.  

For more information, persons should telephone the Water and Sewerage Department at 468-5834, 468-9062 Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Water and Sewerage department continues to seek to ensure the provision of a continuous supply of potable water and an environmentally sound sewerage disposal service.

Ceremony For The Re-Opening Of The ESHS L-Shaped Building

 

The Government of the Virgin Islands is inviting the public to the Official Handover Ceremony and Thanksgiving Service for the L-Shaped Building of the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) on Friday, September 6 at 2:30 p.m.

The ceremony will be held at the ESHS school grounds.

Arlene T. Penn is Director of Communications

Mrs. Arliene T. Penn has been appointed Director of Communications in the Premier Office effective August 26. 

The appointment was made by His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Augustus Jaspert, in accordance with section 92 of the Virgin Islands Constitution, and acting in accordance with the advice of the Public Service Commission.

Mrs. Penn will serve as a communications adviser to the Premier and other government officials including, heads of department and other senior public officers, House of Assembly members, statutory bodies and boards.

She will also serve as accounting officer and provide strategic leadership and advice to the Department of Information and Public Relations.

Mrs. Penn will provide administrative and policy support to the Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office in various areas including financial services, National Risk Assessment, international affairs, and tourism, among other areas.

She will also liaise with the local, regional and international media and answer media enquiries on behalf of the Government of the Virgin Islands following consultation with the relevant top managers and ministries.

NHI Clinical & Claims Team Receive Training

    The clinical and claims teams of National Health Insurance (NHI) received training from representatives of International Reinsurance Managers, LLC (IRM).

 

   Deputy Director of the Social Security Board with responsibility for NHI, Mr. Roy Barry said, “IRM provides insurance for NHI. This is to ensure we can fulfill our remit by providing access to healthcare outside of the Territory.” He continued, “The NHI team continues with training initiatives, such as with IRM, to enhance the service provided to our beneficiaries.”

 

   The team members who received training on Tuesday are Manager of Health Benefits and Referrals, Mrs. Norma Benjamin; Medical Director, Dr. Harlan Vanterpool; Beneficiary Advisory Services Manager, Ms. Casandra Lewis; Claims Supervisor, Mrs. Niasha Penn-Benjamin and Claims Officer, Ms. Natasha Clyne.

 

National Health Insurance is designed to improve health outcomes and provide financial risk protection by ensuring that every resident of the Virgin Islands will have affordable access to the health services they need.

Government Offices and Ports Closed

Please note that all Government Offices are closed, however, essential officers are required to report. All airports and seaports are closed. The BVI Banking Association also announced that all banks are closed.

 

All seaports in the USVI have been closed.

The public including private garbage haulers are notified that in an effort to control indiscriminate dumping of waste at the incinerator at Pockwood Pond, access to the site will not be allowed beyond 4:00 p.m. daily.

Compactor trucks will however be allowed access up to 8:00 p.m. The public will be notified on the resumption of normal operations at the site.
